Who can and cannot have laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal suits most people, but a few things can affect whether and when you can be treated. Here is what to mention at your consultation.

Short answer: Laser suits most people, but tans, tattoos, some medication or skin conditions and pregnancy can affect whether and when you can be treated.
Laser hair removal is suitable for most people, but not everyone, and not always at every moment. Here are the things that most often matter. Your technician will give you a clear answer for your own situation at your free consultation.
Tans and sun exposure
The laser targets colour, so a recent tan, sunbed use or fake tan can make treatment less safe. You may be asked to wait until it has faded. Protect treated skin from the sun throughout your course.
Tattoos and moles
Laser should not be used directly over a tattoo, because the ink absorbs the energy and the skin could be damaged. Hair growing over or beside a tattoo or a mole is treated with care, and some areas may be avoided. Tell us about any marks, moles or tattoos in the area.
Medication and health conditions
Some medicines and skin conditions can make skin more sensitive to light and laser. Tell us about any prescription or over-the-counter medication, and about conditions such as eczema, psoriasis or a history of cold sores or scarring in the area.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Many clinics prefer not to treat during pregnancy. Tell your technician if you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, and they will advise you at your consultation.
Hair and skin type
Laser works on pigment in the hair, so very light, grey or white hair responds less well. Our laser uses dual wavelengths, so it can safely treat lighter and darker skin types. A patch test is mandatory and confirms the safest, most effective setting for you.
Why the consultation matters
You do not have to work out any of this yourself. At your free consultation we ask the questions, assess your skin and hair, and plan your course. If laser is not right for you, we will say so honestly.
If you are not sure whether you are suitable, get in touch and ask. We would always rather answer your questions than have you worrying.
